Statement from Representative Adriano Espaillat on Speaker Nancy Pelosi Decision to Step Down from Democratic Leadership in the House of Representatives.

 

WASHINGTON, DC --Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement on Speaker Pelosi’s decision to step down from Democratic Leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives and serve in a new capacity during the 118th Congress. 

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been a leader, mentor, and guiding light for House Democrats. She has led with grace, poise, dignity, and the upmost commitment to ensuring American democracy for the people,” said Rep. Espaillat. “Personally, I had the opportunity to get to know her over my years in Congress, and she was always supportive and answered the call when needed on the issues that matter the most to my constituents. 

"Under her leadership, House Democrats delivered on the urgent issues facing the American public, and we will be forever grateful for all that she accomplished and the policies she ushered into law. Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx. First elected to Congress in 2016, Representative Espaillat is serving his third term in Congress. Representative Espaillat currently serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Committee on Appropriations responsible for funding the federal government’s vital activities. He is also a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), where he serves in a leadership role as the Second Vice Chair and is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, where he serves as Deputy Whip.
